The earphone rule

If I have earphones in, please don’t talk to me — message me instead, even if you’re sitting right next to me. A few seconds of interruption costs me my whole train of thought, and a message costs you nothing: it waits until I reach a natural break.

The exceptions are an emergency, or when I’m blocking you and you can’t carry on without me. Then interrupt me — that’s what exceptions are for.
