Scientology, Scam or Delusion
Update (24/7/2006): After Codebot published that article, The Church of Scientology took legal action against Codebot and had his website shut down (Digg). Codebot.org now redirects to scientology.org. Nevertheless, my article will still remain as it is. All of the content here are either facts or quotations.

After reading Scientology is not Science, my interest in exposing Scientology as a scam has been rekindled. sysrpl on codebot.org has this to say about Scientology:
To protect all of this information, the church uses its vast sums of money to litigate into oblivion those that speak out against the church. They have an entire dictionary of terms and plays to use against people. For example, if you were in the church and knew someone critical of it they would label you a PTS, or potential trouble source. The outside person would be called a suppressive person. As a PTS you are required to get rid of the suppressive person. This leads to the Scientology policy of disconnection.
Another trick Scientology uses is spying, threatening, and record keeping. See, the contents of your auditing sessions are kept by the church. They have all your deep dark secrets, and if you ever leave and are perceived as a danger in any way, they won’t hesitate to threaten you with this information. Watch the scary video of scientology doing it’s spying.
There is a book being played out as as animated GIF in the article. The book is “An Illustrated History of Scientology: Second Edition” by L. Rick Vodicka that exposes the truth behind Scientology. You can download it here (3.6 MB).
Any religion that cons its followers into paying subscription fees to an organisation is a scam. Of course, Scentology is not a scam but a delusion if its leaders and followers actually believe in what they preach and follow. Despite that, if a person is shipwrecked on an island and decides to start believing in God, does it mean that God will not accept him because he can’t file papers or pay fees?
For the same reason, I find it ridiculous that Malaysian Muslims are pressured by the government and religious authorities to acquire a certificate that states you are a Muslim. Are you less of a Muslim if you do not have a certificate? Despite being a Muslim in Malaysia myself I have always refused to acquire a certificate because it compromises my beliefs that Islam should always remain accessible and that only actions and beliefs can define a person, not a certificate. This ridiculous certification process also turns the practice of Islam from a very easy and simple way of life to an organisation controlled by an authority not unlike a totalitarian environment.
