Textpattern's bizarre feeds
Over the past week, friends and colleagues have been complaining about my feeds behaving oddly. Month-old feeds have been showing up as updated in their newsreaders.
Textpattern is set to update feeds whenever a comment is posted or when an article is updated. I disabled this when I was on Textpattern 1.0rc5 but Textpattern 4.0 took the effort to annoyingly reset these settings back to default. I’m glad to have noticed, though, because Textpattern 4.0 came with easier ways to disable this behaviour (or was it there already and I never noticed until now?).
The old way
Hack /textpattern/lib/admin_config.php.
The new way
In Admin > Preferences > Advanced Preferences, do this:
- Disable “Send Last Modified Header”
- Disable “Show comment count in feeds”
- Disable “New comment means site updated”
Sometimes, minute annoyances can lead to small discoveries like this.
